The Art Gallery of Ontario is welcoming “Tunirrusiangit: Kenojuak Ashevak and Time Pitsiulak”, a unique celebration of two iconic Inuit artists as seen through the eyes of four contemporary Inuit curators.
Opening June 16, this exhibition showcases over 100 works onpaper by “the grandmother of Inuit art” Kenojuak Ashevak and her nephew Tim Pitsiulak. The exhibition name, Tunirrusiangit, means “their gifts” or “they gift they gave” in Inuktitut.
Upon entering the exhibition, visitors will pass through a constantly changing projection. There will also be a video shown that features interviews with the families of Kenojuak Ashevak and Tim Pitsiulak. This video was filmed in Inuktitut, but provides English subtitles.
The exhibitions running through the season are:
June 16 – August 12: Tunirrusiangit: Kenojuak Ashevak and Time Pitsiulak
July 12 – October 21: Rebecca Belmore: Facing the Monumental
September – January 2019: Anthropocene
