Beware of “cryptojacking”

Internet users may be unknowingly helping online criminals make money thanks to a new form of hacking.

So-called “cryptojacking” involves hackers infecting as many as 50-thousand websites with malicious code that devotes a computer’s processing power to solving a complicated mathematical problem with digital currency called Monero offered as a reward.

Experts say while cryptojacking is less damaging than other forms of hacking since no personal information is accessed or stolen, it should still be taken seriously.
