Brantford woman duped in Romance Scam

A romance scam broke a Brantford woman’s heart and probably her bank account, too.

Police were contacted on Tuesday after the 59-year-old victim says she sent $4,000 to a man named “Mark” after hooking up with him romantically through Facebook last October.

Although they never met, police say the scam artist, who claimed he was a contractor from the U-S working in Nigeria, manipulated and convinced the victim his feelings were genuine.

The scam artist sent the victim pictures allegedly of himself and his daughter and convinced her to send him money to Nigeria, Washington DC and North Carolina.
