Macleans has released a list of the most crime ridden cities in Canada, using Statistics Canada’s Crime Severity Index and it looks like the worst among Canada’s 100 largest cities is Grande Prairie, Alberta which sits at #1 for violent, non-violent, and overall crime. Toronto, surprisingly, is rather low on the list for non-violent crimes, though it sits at #18 for violent crime with firearm use being its highest violent crime.
Brantford also made the list and is highest in non-violent crime placing 25th, with motor vehicle theft being the highest right ahead of fraud. Crime severity index has us in 28th and Violent Crime lists us in 31st place among the 100 largest cities in Canada.
These statistics are all per-capita based, from cities with a population of more than 10,000, and are all from the most recent available data which came out in July 2015.
