Farmers facing challenges on rain-soaked fields

The province’s agriculture minister says he’s heard from numerous agriculture organizations and individuals about the adverse weather conditions for planting in May.

Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says the province is working to assist them, and says some seasons are better than others.

The latest field crop report shows progress was made over the last week in corn in areas with lighter textured soils while about 50 per cent of the intended canola acres have been planted.

OMAFRA says some who can have started planting soybeans, but  overall, progress has been minimal to date.
