Flat hiring climate anticipated for Brantford

Only 17 per cent of Brantford area employers will be posting a help-wanted sign.

In its latest employment outlook, Manpower says local employers expect a flat hiring climate for the second quarter of the year.

Erica Melarangeli of Manpower’s Stoney Creek office says 13 per cent expect to make cutbacks, while the remaining 70 per cent employers plan to maintain current staffing levels.

By comparison, 27 per cent of Waterloo Region employers plan to hire more staff in the second quarter.

Melarangeli says with seasonal variation removed from the data, Brantford’s second quarter net employment outlook of two per cent is a 15 per cent decrease when compared with the previous quarterly outlook and 21 per cent lower than the same time last year.

ManpowerGroup Canada Country Manager Darlene Minatel says while job growth has picked up in the first quarter, many employers are still struggling to find the right candidates for open jobs.
