A woman who helped organize a county fair in Milton that raised money for children’s charities is facing fraud charges related to the event.
Halton Regional Police say the Forget Me Not Family Fun Fair in 2013 and 2014 was initially organized to raise funds for the family of a child who died after being left unattended in an overheated car.
Police say more than 1400 people attended the inaugural fair and several thousand dollars were raised for two children’s charities.
The fair was successfully run again in 2014, raising thousands of dollars, attracting hundreds of people and receiving significant media attention.
Police say the family declined the money and requested that it be redirected to unspecified children’s charities — but they allege at least one of the charities never received the promised funds.
The 38-year-old woman — who police say is well known in the community for charitable efforts — is charged with fraud and theft.
