Gas, dollar, markets down

The price of gas ranges from about $1.09 to $1.22 a litre for regular.

The world price of crude tumbled $1.66 to $55.96.

The Canadian dollar fell nearly a half cent to 78.39 cents U-S, after the Bank of Canada decided to keep interest rates on hold.

On the markets, gains by several of Canada’s biggest banks weren’t enough to compensate for a nose-diving energy sector, which was down more than two per cent.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 5.05 points and the Dow Jones industrial average fell 39.73 points.
