The world price of oil is down $1.37 to $52.64 per barrel.

The Canadian dollar is trading overseas this morning at 75.11 cents U-S, down 0.03 of a cent.

North American markets fell on renewed fears about a global economic slowdown and difficulties in the U.S. and China reaching a trade deal.

The S&P/TSX composite index closed down 8.95 points to 15,703.36.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 220.77 points at 25,169.53. The S&P 500 index was down 25.56 points at 2,706.05, while the Nasdaq composite was down 86.93 points at 7,288.35.
