Guelph has earned bragging rights for having the lowest jobless rate in the country.
Statistics Canada says the Royal City’s 1.9 per cent unemployment rate was down from 2.3 per cent in December.
Hamilton, St. Catharines-Niagara, Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge, and Brantford all recorded lower jobless rates last month, while Toronto and London posted slight increases compared with December.
Stats-Canada says more people started looking for jobs in January and that pushed the unemployment rate from a 43-year-low of 5.6 per cent to 5.8 percent.
However, nearly 67,000 jobs – with Ontario and Quebec leading the way – were created last month.
