Heroic hounds in the Hall

Four courageous canines are being inducted into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame, recognized for their life-saving acts of perseverance and intuition.

Labrador/border collie crosses Ruth and Lady from B-C’s Okanagan Valley kept their owner warm after a car accident before luring a nearby homeowner to the crash site, enabling emergency services to get their in time to save his life.

Whippet Sabrina (pictured) from St. Laurent, Quebec woke up one of her owners from a deep sleep to help his wife, who suffered a severe concussion and fractured vertebra in her neck after falling down the stairs in the middle of the night.

And a 90-year-old man owes his life to Erik the German shepherd from Baddeck, Nova Scotia, who found the senior lying in the in the woods after he slipped on some ice and broke his hip.

The dogs get a medal of honour and a year’s supply of Purina dog food.
