Leave pets at home, rather than in cars: OPP

Provincial Police are reminding owners to leave their pets at home after dogs were left in vehicles over the weekend in the Simcoe area.

Constable Ed Sanchuk says on a day where the temperature is 26 degrees, the temperature inside a vehicle parked in the shade reaches 32 degrees and 71 degrees in the sun.

While the spring has been cool and wet for the most part, the region basked in sunshine and temperatures around 25 degrees.

Sanchuk also says anyone convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal could receive up to 5 years in jail.
