Michael barreling through Georgia, South Carolina

Tropical Storm Michael is still menacing the Southeastern U-S with heavy rains, high winds and possible spinoff tornadoes, soaking areas swamped by hurricane Florence last month.

Michael was a Category 4 storm with 250-kilometre an hour winds when it hit the Florida Panhandle yesterday, destroying homes and shopping centres and knocking down trees that killed at least two people.

Thousands of police officers and search and rescue teams are looking for survivors in the wreckage of homes where people defied evacuation orders.

More than 780-thousand homes and businesses were without power this morning.
