Forecasters are warning the public that despite Florence’s recent weakening, it is far from being a weak hurricane and is still extremely dangerous.
A University of Georgia meteorology professor says hurricane Florence is a “horrific nightmare storm” because its centre is slowing down and is expected to stall just off shore today, tomorrow and Saturday.
That makes Florence more of a threat to more people because the more it stalls, the more it rains.
The U-S National Hurricane Center is calling for up to 75 centimetres of rain in North Carolina, with some areas getting as much as 100-centimetres.
The police chief in Wrightsville Beach, South Carolina is telling residents of a barrier island who refused to leave that they should give him their next of kin because no one will go out to rescue them at the height of the storm. (Source: The Weather Network)
