Norfolk County not egg-cited about urban chickens

Norfolk County councillors aren’t very peckish about chickens moving into town.

For the second time in two years, councillors turned down the idea of allowing backyard chickens in the county’s urban areas, like Simcoe, Port Dover and Delhi.

Most councillors say they were put off by the possibility of complaints and the potential health effects of chickens kept in unsanitary conditions.

Simcoe teen Andrew Moore, who’s promoted the backyard chicken idea, says he wants to become a farmer and asked council for permission to keep a small flock of hens.
