Oxford resident thwarts Grandparent Scam

This time, an Oxford County resident didn’t fall for the grandparent scam.

Over the noon hour yesterday, OPP were contacted by a concerned South West Oxford Township resident about an attempted fraud.

Police say the homeowner received a phone call from a man pretending to be the victim’s grandson, who had been in a collision and needed $12,000 to be released on bail.

The victim realized it was a scam and called police.

Last week an elderly Oxford couple wasn’t so lucky, and lost $37,000 in the grandparent scam.
