Police watchdog investigating incident at BGH

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the serious injury sustained by a 43-year-old man yesterday (Thursday) in Brantford.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 2 p.m. on February 7, 2019, the Brantford Police Service received a call from hospital staff regarding a patient who had left the Brantford General Hospital.
  • The police service then received another call regarding a man standing on the top level of the hospital’s parking garage.
  • Upon the arrival of police, the man fled and then fell to the ground below.
  • He was admitted to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The SIU says three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to this incident.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
