High winds, waves and the potential for localized flooding are creating unsafe conditions along the Lake Erie shoreline.
Haldimand County Fire Chief and Manager of Emergency Services Jason Gallagher is urging residents to stay away from the Port Maitland Pier as water and waves are affecting the walkway to the lighthouse.
High winds are expected to continue along the lakeshore until later this (Wednesday) evening, with gusts up 100 kilometres per hour possible.
As a precaution, Gallagher says Haldimand County Fire Department hand-delivered flood warning notices to residents and businesses downstream of the Dunnville Dam in Port Maitland and along the Lake Erie shoreline.
He says it’s recommended that residents contact their insurance companies about flood protection if they have not done so already.
