Waterloo bracing for St. Patrick’s Day

Waterloo Region emergency services are preparing for thousands of St. Patrick’s Day revellers who are expected to cram Ezra Avenue.

A police official says they have a larger operational plan to deal with this year’s event, which includes closing roads temporarily to ensuring pedestrian safety.

Police, paramedics, fire and city officials will hold two briefings on Sunday to update the media on the gathering and answer questions.

The media briefings will be held at 10 a.m. at the corner of Ezra Avenue and Albert Street and a 3 0’clock at the Police Service’s North Division headquarters at 45 Columbia Street East.

Chief Bryan Larkin says they’re planning for 25-thousand to 30-thousand people in the university district.
