Loonie surging

The price of gas ranges from about $1.13-$1.21 a litre for regular.

The loonie surged three-quarters of a cent Friday to close at its highest level in more than three months after StatsCan reported December job-creation data that dropped Canada’s unemployment rate to a four-decade low.

Toronto’s S-and-P/T-S-X index lost 63 points, to close Friday at 16,349.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average climbed 220 points to 25,295 — a new record high.

And the Nasdaq gained 58 points to 7,136 — a new record high.

Tokyo’s markets were closed today for a holiday.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 84 points, to 30,899.

And our dollar is trading overseas this morning at 80.55 cents U-S, down eight -100ths of a cent from Friday’s average value of 80.63.
