New job scam warning from WRPS

You may want to keep a watchful eye on where you’re applying in Waterloo Region.

Police are issuing a warning after a local resident applied online for a job, and was told they would be representing a company in a satellite location away from headquarters.

Police say when applying for the job, the victim was instructed to give out personal information.

Afterwards, the suspects would instruct the victim to deposit cheques and withdraw the funds to be forwarded to another location.

The cheques are counterfeit.

Police say to do your research before accepting job positions.

If you’re suspicious of a job posting or have information on this incident, contact WRPS or Crime Stoppers.
