Waterloo ION-LRT involved in another collision

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating another ION light rail transit train- involved collision in Kitchener.

The latest occurred Thursday afternoon on King Street across from Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate Institute.

The collision involved an SUV, and damage was heavy to both the SUV and train.

Police say the van was trying to make a u-turn when it collided with the LRT.

The train was travelling about 40 km/h.

The first crash involving an ION train occurred in the Duke and Water Street area on May 31 when a driver was charged for running a red light.

That caused about $20,000 damage.

The second crash was very minor, considered a non-reportable crash by police.

Regional officials estimated the damage in that crash was less than $2,000.

ION light rail service is set to launch on Friday, June 21st.
